Digital Transformation of AIDA and Costa Crociere

AIDA Cruises, a brand of Costa Crociere S.p.A. and part of Carnival Corporation & plc with annual revenue of USD 21.6 billion, is one of Europe’s most recognized cruise providers. To make the cruise experience future-proof through digital transformation, Costa Crociere founded the ‘Costa Digital Unit’ – with the goal of progressively digitalizing the guest journey and creating innovative experiences before, during and after the cruise.

In close collaboration with the Costa Digital Unit, foobar Agency implemented modern discovery functionalities in an agile, composable architecture – from optimizing websites for key European markets to developing innovative concepts such as indoor navigation for ships.

Situation & Vision

To advance the company’s digital transformation, Costa Crociere founded the 'Costa Digital Unit'. This division was created to progressively digitalize the guest journey and create innovative experiences before, during and after the cruise.

The goal was to introduce digital innovations along the entire customer journey – spanning discovery functionalities on AIDA and Costa Crociere websites across key European markets, as well as developing innovative concepts that revolutionize the on-board experience, such as indoor navigation or personalized services.

Our Approach

In close collaboration with the Costa Digital Unit, foobar Agency implemented modern discovery functionalities in an agile and composable architecture. With a clear focus on speed and scalability, AIDA and Costa Crociere websites were optimized for key European markets, offering guests an intuitive and seamless booking and discovery experience.

We also contributed to several innovation projects that redefined the on-board guest experience. A standout example was the development of indoor navigation features for ships, enabling passengers to easily find their way around – a milestone for comfort and service.
