What Is Really Going On at SAP Commerce?
This episode was recorded in German. YouTube may offer a dubbed audio track.
Show Notes
On 31 July 2026, mainstream maintenance ends for the last on-premise version of SAP Commerce, the platform many in the DACH region still call by its old name: hybris. Thousands of companies worldwide are still on the platform and now have to decide how to proceed.
In this video, I draw on eleven years of hands-on experience as an SAP Commerce project lead and architect to look behind the scenes. How did the acquisition by SAP come about? What was really going on with the first Commerce Cloud (spoiler: it was not one)? Why did customers ignore Spartacus for years? And which four paths are open to existing customers facing the decision now?
With concrete anecdotes from my own project experience, hard market data from StoreLeads and Gartner, and a fair assessment of the four migration paths, from SAP migration within its own ecosystem to replatforming to composable commerce.
Transparency note: At foobar Agency, we actively help customers replatform away from SAP Commerce today. That shapes my judgment, which is why I say so right at the start of the video.
