What you can expect to work on

Your Tasks

We are looking for motivated working students to support us in an interdisciplinary research project in cooperation with a university of applied sciences. The aim is to develop an intelligent AI system that uses Bayesian Optimization and probabilistic modeling to find the optimal parameters for injection molding processes – depending on the respective plastic granulate and real sensor data.

Your responsibilities will include:

Analysis of real machine data from industrial production plants
Support in the development of probabilistic AI models (e.g. with Pyro)
Collaboration on a Bayesian optimization framework for process optimisation
Close collaboration with AI research and application partners
Flexible, self-organised work with regular meetings and plenty of room for further development

What we expect you to bring in

Your Profile

You are a properly enrolled student (from 5th semester Bachelor or Master) in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related field
You have solid Python skills and initial experience with data analysis tools (e.g. pandas, numpy, matplotlib)
You are interested in machine learning and statistical thinking, especially Bayesian statistics
You work in a structured and independent way and use Git for clean version control
You are motivated to learn new things – especially in the area of AI & Bayesian Optimization

Nice to have:

Experience with AI and probabilistic frameworks like Pyro, BoTorch, scikit-learn or PyTorch
Knowledge of probabilistic models, statistical inference, or stochastic optimization
Interest in manufacturing processes or sensor technology

What else you should know

You’ll work 15–20 hours/week, depending on your schedule
The position runs for at least 5 months, ideally longer
We work in a hybrid setup – remote and in-person (at least 1 day/week in Munich)
We communicate mostly in English, but German is a big plus
